START
YOUR CHILD ON THE ROAD
TO SUCCESS WITH THE BKA
With the success of our first two protégées, Joseph Riley Mobil 1 British Junior Rotax Max Champion 2008 and Junior British O plate champion 2007 and Luke Caudle the British Senior O plate Champion 2008 and Festival Cup Winner 2007, we are now proud to launch The British Karting Academy (BKA).

The BKA in association with Martin Hines (owner Zip Karts and founder of “Zips Young Guns”) and Bill Sisley (M.D. of Buckmore Park) and The Raceway Docklands (U.K’s premier indoor circuit) will provide the necessary grounding to start youngsters on the path up the racing ladder. All their experience gleaned over decades in the kart racing fraternity will be passed on to your child.

Our kart training programme, starting in December 2008, is specifically designed for the novice driver and aimed at children aged between 6 and 16. Training sessions will be held every Sunday at the Raceway Docklands indoor circuit.

Each course will include a visit from a member of the World Champions Zip Young Guns team to talk about how they progressed from juniors, like them, to be champions.

There will also be fast track courses available over Christmas and half term holidays. As all our courses start at The Raceway Docklands, this will enable us to begin their training, in a controlled environment, each kart having individual speed controls ensuring the safest possible start to their careers.

The BKA will provide all the necessary equipment to start your child on their first steps to a racing career but whilst some will show ability, there is no point rushing out and buying karts, suits etc. until they have been professionally assessed. Zip Kart Drivers discount cards will be awarded to all those that complete the course.

Once your child has completed our three stage programme, they will progress on to Buckmore Park the U.K.’s No.1 outdoor circuit where they will continue their training and gain valuable experience racing on a full international outdoor circuit. A full ARKS & RAC MSA training course can be completed at this stage after which your child will be eligible to compete in major competitions.

The BKA’s top drivers will be given the opportunity of a Zip Kart “Young Gun” track test day, giving them the chance to progress to the “Young Guns” team which has produced drivers such as David Coulthard, Anthony Davidson, Jason Plato, Luke Hines, Lewis Hamilton and our latest protégée Oliver Rowland, who has followed in Lewis’s footsteps, by being recently signed for the McLaren-Mercedes junior driver programme!

THE BRITISH KARTING ACADEMY

From December 2008 The British Karting Academy will operate from our Docklands Raceway Indoor Kart Circuit for drivers aged 6 – 16 years.

Cadet 6 – 7 years

The youngsters will be taken through the basics of karting by our trained personnel. The course will start with a lesson to teach pupils all about the karts and how to control them, followed by further lessons on racing lines, breaking and turn-in points and all they need to know to prepare them for their first race.

Cadet 8 – 13 years

Like the 6 – 7 year olds’ category, all drivers will be taken through the basics of karting, depending on their experience level. There are 5 lessons available to take pupils from novice to advanced level. After they have successfully completed our training programme they will be ready to compete in our BKA Championship.

Junior 11 – 16 years

This category is for older and taller drivers. There are lessons for all experience levels although the main focus will be on honing what each pupil has already learned. Each lesson will take place in our single-engine Bowman karts, capable of speeds approaching 50mph. Like our Cadet category, there will also be a BKA Championship for our Junior drivers.
